FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Considering a switch or new to HIV treatment? Either way, we have answers to questions you may have about DOVATO.

DOVATO is a prescription medication used to treat HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents from 12 years of age, weighing at least 40 kg. It is a combination of two antiretroviral drugs - dolutegravir 50mg and lamivudine 300mg.1

DOVATO works by inhibiting the replication of the HIV virus in the body. Dolutegravir and lamivudine work together to block the action of enzymes that the virus needs to multiply, helping to reduce the viral load in the blood.6

No, DOVATO is not a cure for HIV. It is used to manage HIV infection and reduce the viral load, but it does not eliminate the virus from the body. You will need to continue taking DOVATO as prescribed by your doctor.1

DOVATO should be swallowed whole and taken one tablet once daily at around the same time each day, with or without food.1

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if your next dose is due within 4 hours, skip the dose you missed and take the next one at the usual time. Then continue your treatment as before.1

Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose that you missed, and do not stop taking DOVATO without your doctor's advice.1

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including any that you get without a prescription from your pharmacy, supermarket, or health food shop.1

Do not take DOVATO with these medicines:1

  • dofetilide or pilsicainide which is used to treat heart conditions
  • fampridine which is used to treat multiple sclerosis

DOVATO may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them - common side effects people may experience are headache, nausea, and diarrhoea.1

Always inform your doctor or pharmacist if you notice anything that is making you feel unwell or if you develop any signs of an allergic reaction such as a rash.1
